What parka for this winter? Our advice for choosing well

The parka has become unavoidable. Adopted by both men and women, it is appreciated by everyone. We like it for its casual style. It is appreciated for its comfort and convenience (and yes, it usually has more pockets than a classic coat or a jacket and this is a real "plus", especially for men!). Finally, with the sportswear trend that is confirmed, the parka - man or woman - is not ready to go out of fashion. She is and will remain for a long time, one of the stars of winter. So enjoy it! Adopt it, too.

Treat yourself to a quality winter parka, not expensive, it's possible!

Certainly, there are luxury parkas on the market all down or lined with real fur, but honestly, unless you live at the North Pole, no need to invest in these models ultra-hot and ultra-expensive. Today, you can find a man parka or a winter parka woman of very good quality, without breaking the bank! To make the right choice. In a sporting spirit, the red parka or two-tone models remain high standards!  Sport parkas are often structured with inserts or details (zip, lining) of contrasting colors. There are many models with bright colors like red. It is true that this tonic tinge has the advantage of being very visible from a distance; an asset in terms of safety for example on the ski slopes.

Bet on a model resistant to the outside and warm inside!

Outside, your parka must be cut in a very resistant fabric (Microtech, softshell or other material) that is also waterproof or, at least, water repellent. Your parka should not take water at the slightest rainfall. The rain must slip on without penetrating. This is especially important if you spend a lot of time outdoors or if you live in a rainy area.
Women Long Jecket
Inside, the winter parkas are usually doubled either with a comfortable quilting or a warm and light fleece. Many models also combine these 2 types liners. Both will bring you comfort and warmth. Of course, the higher the weight of the lining, the warmer the parka will be. If you hesitate between two models, consider comparing this point.

But the materials used are not everything ...

Look at the finishes and details: they are essential for insulation!

A parka using good basic materials but allowing the air to penetrate everywhere would lose all its effectiveness! Think about it when you choose your model. Always favor double closures. If you are looking for a well-insulated jacket, opt for a parka with a first zipper covered by a press stud or scratched. Observe the finishes of the sleeves.  They must be adjustable at the bottom by scratched or pressed tab, or be doubled with an inner wrist tightened by ribs.
If you spend a lot of time outdoors, look to a model that can also tighten at the waist and fit at the bottom with elastic cords with stopper. There is no more effective way to completely block the wind and the cold.

Still to be decided, the question of the hood ...

With or without a hood?

In the city

In town, hoods can be useful but are not essential. And yet, we see a lot of parkas with hoods lined with fake fur. It is a fashion trend that many men and women have adopted. But, it is above all an aesthetic and therefore personal choice.
If the hood option is still possible, it is not recommended in one case. If you have to wear your parka every day on a rather formal outfit - suit type - prefer a model without hood, which will look less sporty, more neutral.
Finally, if you hesitate between a model with or without a hood, think parkas with a hood integrated into the collar (they are invisible and it can always help!) Or, better still, take a model 2 in 1, with a warm removable hood.

Outdoors

Choosing a parka for men or women, with a hood, is essential. This one will be useful to you more than once during the winter. Favor the models with a hood warmly doubled and well "hermetic". For optimum efficiency, it must fit perfectly - by a cord with a stopper or scratched tab - so that the air can not penetrate.

Last detail to check ...

Read the maintenance labels before buying!

To avoid any unpleasant surprises, always check the information on the maintenance labels. A practical parka must be able to wash in machine at 30 °. If you had to bring it to the laundry to clean it, it would end up being expensive.
Now that you know the bottom line, let's take a look at the form; let's talk about the ideal length of a parka and possible or recommended color choices.
Choose the right length
If you are looking for a sports parka like a ski parka for example - the important thing is to choose a model that gives you maximum ease and freedom of movement. A rather short model, under the hips, will be ideal.

But be careful: take into account your morphology too!

If you measure less than 1.70 m, prefer a short parka. A model a little long risk to tamp your silhouette and do not put you in value. Avoid for the same reasons, models called "over-size". They would not benefit you. Prefer rather curved cuts. This applies to men but also to women, flat shoes enthusiasts. If, on the other hand, you measure only 1.65 m but always wear heels of 10 cm, you can afford a parka long mid-thigh if you feel like it.
If you have a tendency to be overweight, no worries! You can adopt the parka by favoring straight cut models and sober shades. Just avoid models that are too thick or have large bellows pockets that tend to weigh down the silhouette.

And the right color

The parka is a centerpiece, not very sensitive to the effects of fashion! Year after year, its key colors remain the same. The parka you will buy this year will not go out of style next year.
For a trendy look, dare the khaki parka!  Historically, it's the iconic color of the parka. This is also the most trendy color. In addition, contrary to the fears of many, the khaki is a color easy to wear and easy to marry. It is perfect for gray, beige, off-white, black, navy, blue jeans or burgundy. In fact, it goes with almost everything! Only forbidden: mixing with other greens.

For a more classic style, put on a black parka, navy, gray, beige or taupe!  These shades are timeless and have the advantage of getting married to everything. The darker ones also tend to thin the silhouette and blend perfectly into a dressy outfit. Note: women parkas are also often in unbleached tones and sometimes play fantasy with less classic shades.
